question #2
I believe that there are many of the same universal rules for different religions. For example, I found that people in Sweden are very punctual and on time. My dad taught us that, “To be early, is to be on time; to be on time, is to be late; and to be late, is unacceptable.” My Dad taught me his moral rules for life and I see many similar ideals in other ethnic cultures. My Dad also enforces me to do well in school. I believe that every culture enforces education and someday have a good job. Some people believe that “Asian parents” are super strict about having straight A’s all the time, but I believe that all cultures want their children to do well and push them to do better than average in their education. I feel that cultures have many different and similar morals that can be shared and adopted into their families.

Very interesting post! When answering this discussion I knew that there had to be something that was a universal rule among cultures but I could not specifically think of any. You are right though, we as a community have universal rules to how we should behave and being on time is one of them. Though many cultures vary in actually being on time, it is socially and universally known that being on time or early is the polite and respectful thing to do. Something I hear a lot concerning my culture is the saying that according to “Mexico time” being on time is being there half an hour or so late. I believe that this is a fallacy in some aspects, especially because like you, my father taught us that it was extremely important to be on time.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteExcellent post. Parents being strict about wanting their kids to do well in school is definitely not exclusive to "Asian parents." You're correct that it's a universal thing. My best friend Dennis has very strict parents when it comes to his schooling, and they are not Asian – they are German. He was home-schooled and now currently goes to West Valley and during his college career he has gotten all A’s and B’s – except ONE “C.” I remember the semester when he got that C; his parents were really upset with him and I was just thinking, “Wow I can only imagine if I have their son!!” I don’t get “bad” grades, but I’ve CERTAINLY have gotten more than one C in my college career! Keep up the great posts!
